Information for prospective Stipendium Hungaricum applicants for studies at the Mathematics and Computer Science Doctoral School of BME:

• A confirmation letter of a prospective supervisor is needed for your application. In the list of available thesis topics you can see which topics are eligible for SH applicants. If you would like to apply to any of those specific topics, please contact the supervisor directly by email (the email address is given in the description of the topic). Please note that the supervisor may or may not provide a letter of support depending on the circumstances. A template for such a letter is here.

• The selection procedure takes place in April-May and involves a written entrance exam and a Skype interview with the admission committee.
  The written exam  measures applicants overall knowledge in mathematics. They need to score at least 15/30 points. Then there will be a skype interview where the prospective supervisor will also be present, and the applicant can discuss specific questions related to the thesis topic. After the skype interview the Doctoral School Committee will decide whether the applicant get accepted to the Doctoral School.

• Sample problems for the written exam

For your information, here is the usual timeline of events for SH applications (but please consult the official site above, as there may be variations from year to year):

• the call opens in November

• the deadline for submitting the applications is in January

• the home countries make a selection of nominated applicants by March

• the nominated applicants take part in a written entrance exam in April. This exam is designed to assess your overall mathematical knowledge. It consists of 30 TRUE/FALSE questions from various branches of mathematics.

• an oral interview is conducted online between the applicant and the prospective supervisor by the end of April

• decision about acceptance or rejection is made by end of May
